The pool service industry has a trust problem
If you've ever tried to hire a pool company in Massachusetts, you know the frustration. You call three companies, maybe four. One never calls back. Another shows up once and disappears. A third gives you a quote that doubles by the time the work is done. It's an industry where the bar for professionalism is shockingly low — and homeowners have learned to expect disappointment.
That's exactly why we started North Shore Pool Boys. Not because the North Shore needed another pool company — it needed a better one.
What customers actually care about
After five years of servicing pools from Saugus to Hamilton, from Lynn to Topsfield, we've found that what customers value most isn't fancy equipment or the cheapest price. It's much simpler than that:
Reliability. They want someone who shows up when they say they will. Not "sometime this week" — Thursday morning means Thursday morning.
Communication. Return the call. Answer the text. Don't leave people waiting and wondering.
Honesty. If the pump is fine, say the pump is fine. Don't create problems to sell solutions.
Competence. Know the difference between a chemistry problem and an equipment problem. Our CPO certification isn't just a badge — it means we understand the science behind pool care.
Respect. Treat their property like you'd treat your own. Clean up. Don't leave a mess. Don't trample the flower beds.
None of this is revolutionary. But in an industry where half the competition doesn't return phone calls, doing the basics well is apparently enough to earn back-to-back "Best of" awards across all of Southern New England.
From Peabody to the best in Southern New England
North Shore Pool Boys started small — Chris doing pool maintenance for a handful of homeowners in Peabody and Danvers. Word spread. Referrals grew. Now we serve 16 towns across the North Shore with a full range of services: weekly maintenance, seasonal openings and winterizations, equipment repair, water chemistry, liner replacement, heater installation, leak detection, and hot tub service.
In July 2025, BusinessRate recognized us as the Best Pool Cleaning Service in Southern New England — covering Massachusetts, Rhode Island, and Connecticut — based on our Google Reviews. In 2026, we earned the Benchmark Award, their highest recognition for maintaining that standard over consecutive years.
What to look for when choosing a pool service in Massachusetts
Whether you're in Beverly, Salem, Marblehead, Wakefield, or anywhere on the North Shore, here's what you should look for before hiring a pool company:
Check their Google Reviews. Not just the star rating — read what people actually say. Look for mentions of communication, reliability, and honesty. A company with 4.8 stars and detailed reviews is more trustworthy than one with a perfect 5.0 and three reviews.
Ask about CPO certification. A Certified Pool Operator has passed a nationally recognized exam covering water chemistry, equipment operation, and safety. Not every technician needs to be certified, but the company should have at least one CPO on staff who oversees service quality.
Get a straight answer on pricing. A reputable company will give you a clear quote before starting work. If they're vague about pricing or won't commit to a number, that's a red flag.
Test their responsiveness. Call them. If they don't answer, do they call back within 48 hours? The way a company handles your first call tells you everything about how they'll handle your pool.
Pool service pricing on the North Shore
Transparency matters, so here's what our services typically cost:
Weekly maintenance: Basic from $80/week, Deluxe from $130/week
Pool openings: Starting at $125
Pool closings: Starting at $150
Pump repair: $150 service call
Liner replacement, heater repair, leak detection: Call for quote
The award is nice. The work is what matters.
We appreciate the recognition from BusinessRate — truly. But at the end of the day, the award sits on a shelf and the work happens in your backyard. We'd rather be known as the company that showed up on time, fixed the problem right, and charged a fair price than the company with the most trophies. If that approach keeps earning us awards, even better.
